It’s been a solid six months since I visited Nashville for the first time. But talking about it, you’d think I lived there. Nashville, the next up and coming city, is a food-lover’s dream and a music fanatic’s paradise. Nashville has become the newest hot destination.
Flipping through my Nashville photos, there’s no doubt that I love southern food, shopping, and hospitality. While licking the bbq off my fingers, I found the latest restaurant trends as well. Not only did I devour biscuits and gravy (with an extra side of gravy) but I also discovered parmesan truffle fries and bacon-pecan caramel popcorn. But don’t fret, there is so much to be seen, all those calories you consume do not matter one bit.
Staying at The Thompson Hotel, located in The Gulch, pretty much ruined any other hotel experience I will ever have in the future. The hotel is everything I love about a trip away from home. Beautiful decor that is cozy and welcoming. Restaurants for both casual and fine dining. A cafe onsite that offers the best locally crafted coffee. And most importantly, a staff that is at your beck and call and makes you feel like family.
No trip to Nashville is complete without a visit to the Johnny Cash Museum. Right in the middle of downtown Nashville. Go mid-day, then plan to hit up the historical bar scene for a bit. The bright neon signs and hustle of boots hitting the sidewalk makes you feel like you’re part of a southern movie scene.
Nashville has been a bucket list of mine for a long time. Not just because of the famous music scene or the amazing southern food. But because I have always wanted to go to Draper James, the hot new Resse Witherspoon boutique. They hand you a glass of ice-cold sweet tea when you walk in. That’s when you know you’re home. You are also not in denial about your pocketbook taking a hit. Totes y’all.
One of my favorite spots was in an industrial area just on the outskirts of town, called Rolling Mill Hill. It’s just one area of Nashville that is turning heads and home to Pinewood Social. An eclectic bowling ally that let the adults lounge comfortably while bowling and enjoying upscale food at the same time. It’s a new take on the long-lost past-time.
When it was time to go, the hardest decision was having a modern take on biscuits from Biscuit Love or hit up Loveless Cafe for traditional fare. Somehow, I managed to do both. Biscuit Love is redefining the biscuit with these “Bonuts.” Fried biscuit dough, lemon mascarpone, blueberry compote? Yes, please.
Whenever I plan a vacation, I try to have little to no expectations. I didn’t know enough about Nashville to have any preconceived ideas. After a visit, it’s now at the top of my favorite US cities.
Nashville exceeded anything I could have hoped for. So if you’re thinking about your next destination, and want a fun city to explore, consider bumping Nashville to the top of your list.
